The brief
One wide opening, five panes of glass
The opening runs the full width of a single-storey room, straight onto the patio. The job was to close it with doors that could fold right out of the way, and to sort out privacy and shade at the same time.
We fitted a five-pane bifold in white aluminium. Every sealed unit has a blind built into it, between the two panes of glass, so there is nothing to hang on the wall inside and nothing for the doors to catch when they fold.
What we did
Why the blinds went inside the glass
A blind sealed inside the unit never needs dusting and can’t be knocked, bent or pulled down. It tilts for shade or closes completely for privacy, and because it sits between the panes it stays out of the way when the doors fold back.
Aluminium carries wide panes on slim frames, which makes it the natural choice for an opening this size. All five panes stack to one side, leaving the rest of the opening clear.
